Bob Baker Bio

Robert P. “Bob” Baker is a freelance technical writer with a B.S. in Chemistry specializing in technical, scientific, industrial and business-to-business marketing communications.  He has written extensively for clients in the fields of:

•    Chemicals and Plastics
•    Clinical Diagnostics
•    Biotechnology
•    Process Instruments
•    Medical Adhesives
•    Electronics
•    Point-Of-Purchase
•    Packaging Materials

Because of his background, Bob has the ability to tailor technical materials to the target audience.  Using input such as laboratory reports or interviews with scientists and engineers, for example, he is able to write for either a technically sophisticated audience or for laymen who need the material translated into clear, understandable English.  Samples of press releases, feature stories, brochures, newsletters and other marketing communications documents demonstrating this ability are available upon request.

“There are a lot of very good writers who are terrified of any form of technology,” says Bob.  “There are also a lot of very good technical people who hate to write and would almost rather face surgery than that blank sheet of paper.  I can be the bridge between the world of technology and those who want to know more about it.”

Bob began his career as a laboratory chemist with the former Allied Chemical Corporation, now Honeywell, and was awarded two patents before making the transition into technical writing.  During his career, he has worked for various advertising agencies in Philadelphia, New York and New Jersey on accounts such as Du Pont, Eastman Chemical, Nikon Instruments, Carl Zeiss, J.T. Baker, Fischer & Porter, Bailey Meter, Yale Lift Trucks, FMC, National Starch and other blue chip clients.

He started his own business called Copy To Go, Inc. about ten years ago and now serves a mix of clients including corporations, advertising agencies and industrial trade publications.  He also writes a weekly column for the Bridgewater Courier-News called, Eating Out, Doing Business,” in which he profiles area business people who have business lunches.  Samples of this column are available upon request.
